Services: Counselling

Counselling provides an opportunity to talk through anything that is troubling you with someone independent, outside your normal circle of family and friends. It can give you the freedom to let go of your masks and express how you really feel to someone who will not judge you or tell you what to do.

Counselling can help individuals and couples who are experiencing difficulty with life events and transitions: moving home, starting or ending relationships, or bereavement for example.

It is also helpful when individuals are experiencing stress, anxiety or depression. Recent research (Cape and colleagues, 2010) has shown that counselling is usually more effective than standard treatment from the GP. If appropriate, we offer CBT counselling which is recommended by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

We also offer longer term counselling for people who experienced traumatic events during childhood, or individuals with specific mental health issues such as eating distress or post-traumatic stress disorder.

Our counsellors, Susy, Jo and Ronnie, are senior figures in the world of counselling, having run the Department of Counselling Studies at a major UK university, published articles in scientific journals and given presentations at national conferences.

We all bring warmth, acceptance and a belief in the individual’s capacity for psychological healing. We work in a variety of theoretical approaches, according to the person’s specific needs.

We are all members of professional bodies with clear codes of practice: the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy and/or the British Psychological Society.

Despite our level of expertise, our fees are moderate.

We provide face to face counselling at locations in Bournemouth, Southampton and Wiltshire, and telephone counselling for people in any location.
