Services: Conflict Resolution

Where individuals or groups have gone beyond “tensions” – which could be dealt with by coaching or an organisational development intervention – to actual conflict, then an alternative approach is needed.

Mediation is one such approach – however traditional mediation does not acknowledge the impact of emotional processes. Restorative approaches draw on both rational, logical intelligence and emotional intelligence, and have been shown to have a much more lasting effect (See, for example, the research presented in the book edited by Elizabeth Elliott and Robert Gordon, published in 2005).

We have provided restorative justice interventions and training to a wide range of organisations, including schools, youth offending teams and social work departments.

Restorative approaches are based on the principles which underpin all our work: fostering responsibility, valuing individuals and developing human potential.

Extensively used to combat bullying in schools, restorative techniques for conflict resolution offer overworked HR managers a constructive alternative to ineffective grievance procedures. If disputes and grievances are becoming common, then a wider programme of conflict prevention will probably be recommended.

As with all our services, restorative conflict resolution more than repays its cost, in providing a workplace where performance is not disrupted.
